Dave's Picks | Amazon Rainforest Arrives To A Bushwick Corner!

Johnson Avenue mural sure hits like a breath of fresh air!

Around the corner from Elsewhere, steps away from Jefferson Avenue, a new colorful mural by Bushwick mural artist Steffi Lynn Tsai depicting the Amazon rainforest.

You can spot the bright green, leafy oasis mural at 573 Johnson Avenue — a part of the city that lacks accessibility to green space. Amazonian creatures peak from huge leaves. You can also spy a beak of the toucan, the yellow and black spotted tail of a leopard, and a parrot amongst the greenery!

I just want people to see my work, whether it’s in a natural environment or just to see something and take a pause in their day. Just like a nice break from day-to-day life. It’s like a fresh breath of air.

— Steffi Lynn Tsai in a Zoom interview

Tsai got the commission from National Geographic, the Disney-owned nature magazine, as part of it's Earth Day Campaign this year. It took Tsai 4 days to complete this mural, and she wants it to serve as a massive reminder to city dwellers to stay grounded and appreciate Mother Nature.

Tsai's artwork focuses on lettering and graphic design, and she's well known for her big murals that are embedded with positive messages and affirmations intended to light anyone up.
