Dave's Picks | ROUNDUP: Best UNIQUE places to work out in NYC

Why go back to our old ways

of working out in a gym when you can sweat it out at these INSANE locations? See ya laters, boring gym days — from rooftops to immersive exhibits and more —  check out some of our fave workout spots in these beautiful and cool spaces!

Vital Brooklyn opened its 24-hour bouldering gym inside a former warehouse in Williamsburg this summer, bringing 45,000 SF of tread walls, tension, kilter, and campus climbing hangboards, slacklines, and other fitness equipment as well! Check out their fully decked-out cycling studio with a great sound system, fitness classes, weight machines, and much more. What's even better is that all year round, VITAL has weatherized and turfed its rooftop so members can climb on it year-round, or relax in a rooftop sauna — you can even grab a bite to eat from its cafe by Jason Baron. Their independent eatery sells healthy meals like salads, wraps, and also serves calorie-packed comfort food, like pizza and hamburgers.

After a 2 year shutdown, the park is making a comeback! Those free famous YOGA classes are back! Courses are completely free although registration is required. Given the popularity of the event, there is a 500 person cap. First-come-first-served basis. Just be sure to leave extra time and hop on the next available train!

YOGA on the beach

A few yoga instructors have led their sessions on the sand at some of NYC's finest beaches! There's nothing like flowing through the evening with the sound of waves and salty air! These classes can be found at Rockaway Beach 32nd Street by Osun YOGA, Orchard Beach by Taka Oso Fierce and at Coney Island beach by One Love Wellness.

SKY-HIGH Yoga at THE EDGE

Imagine getting your ZEN on during sunset on the highest outdoor sky deck in the WESTERN HEMISPHERE. Now you can at the EDGE, which has partnered with Equinox Hudson Yards for "sky-high" yoga. Equinox's signature morning yoga class will take place on Edge's 100th-floor outdoor sky deck, which has a glass floor (not for the faint-hearted…). If you're already an Equinox member, you will also have access to a members-only class on Wednesdays. After each class, attendees will have special access to Edge's viewing areas, which if you haven't seen, gives you a 360-degree view of the city thanks to angled glass walls and outdoor skyline steps!

You can get a complete body and mind workout right on the water at Brookfield Place. As you are guided through movements and holds, you will be able to look out over the Hudson River and gain inspiration from the beautiful view. Their full schedule of outdoor fitness classes can be found here.

The DUMBO Archway has held live music, performances, and flea markets over the years, and now, it is also a place where you can get a good workout too. Gleason's Gym offers a free basics of boxing class (for all levels) under the archway. It might be loud, but at least you are covered when it rains!
